Anpanman Children’s Museum and Mall Expansion to Sendai

WavingAnpanmanInFlightClearThe Anpanman Children’s Museum is expanding into Sendai, and further establishing itself as the most financially profitable and popular children’s museum in Japan. The city will provide 2 billion yen of the 20 billion yen needed for the project, and construction work is expected to begin in 2011. It is anticipated that they will receive over 40,000 visitors per year.

Anpanman (アンパンマン) is an ongoing, beloved children’s series written by Takashi Yanase (柳瀬 嵩) beginning in 1968. The television series has been on air in Japan since 1988. Anpanman is a defender of justice and together with his friends, protect the universe from evil. There are so many characters in the series that it was entered into the Guinness World Records as having the highest number of characters in any animated franchise.  The museum is very popular with multiple floors and daily activities, shows, and live performances.

Sendai will be the third location for the expanding Anpanman Children’s Museum, following the current Yokohama, and Kahoku-cho, Kochi Prefecture.
